1. Overview
ToolWe ("we", "us", "our") provides a collection of free, browser-based micro-tools for working with PDFs, images, video, text, and code. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit toolwe.com (the "Site") and how that information is used.
The short version: the files you open in our tools are processed locally in your browser and are never transmitted to our servers. The rest of this page explains exactly what that means and what limited data we do collect to run and improve the Site.
2. How our tools process your files
Every tool on ToolWe is designed to run entirely on your device using your browser's built-in capabilities. When you drop a file into a tool:
- The file is read directly into your browser's memory using standard Web APIs (such as the File API and Canvas).
- Any processing — merging, compressing, converting, formatting — happens locally on your device's CPU.
- The resulting output is generated and offered to you as a direct download; it is never uploaded to ToolWe or any third party as part of the tool's normal operation.
Because of this design, we have no visibility into the content, filenames, or metadata of the files you process using our tools.
3. Data we collect
We collect a limited amount of information to operate and improve the Site:
- Usage data: aggregated, non-identifying information such as which tool pages are visited, general device/browser type, and approximate region, collected through privacy-conscious analytics.
- Technical logs: standard web server logs (such as IP address and timestamp) generated automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and reliability purposes.
- Voluntary contact information: if you email us or fill out a contact form, we receive whatever information you choose to share with us.
We do not require account creation to use ToolWe's tools, and we do not knowingly collect the content of files you process.
4. Cookies & local storage
ToolWe uses your browser's local storage to remember your interface preferences, such as your choice between light and dark mode. This information stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. We may also use minimal, privacy-respecting cookies for essential site functionality and aggregated analytics.
5. Third-party services
Some tools load lightweight, well-established open-source libraries (for example, for reading or generating PDF and image files) from public content delivery networks so your browser can perform certain operations locally. We also use standard web fonts and, where noted, a privacy-conscious analytics provider. These services may receive standard connection information (such as your IP address) as an inherent part of how the web works, but they do not receive the files you process with our tools.
6. Data retention
Since your files are never transmitted to us, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf. Aggregated usage data and technical logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, analytics, and operational purposes, after which they are deleted or fully anonymized.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding any personal data we hold about you, including the right to request access, correction, or deletion of that data. Since we collect very little personal data by design, most requests can be resolved quickly. To exercise any rights, please contact us using the details below.
8. Children's privacy
ToolWe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal and regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date above whenever changes are made. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
